BLACK IS BACK !  The TAD BLACKPLATE™  Series is in production again!

The TAD 6L6WGC-STR BLACKPLATE™ is a remake of the small bottle RCA 6L6GC and has the same warm lower midrange and silky top end as the classic RCA versions of the 1950s and 60s. Like the historic RCA 5881, this tube features exclusive blackplate anodes and a side getter. The TAD 6L6GC-STR BLACKPLATE™ and the TAD 6L6WGC-STR BLACKPLATE™ have our exclusive black-plate desings, gold grid wire, double getter construction, no-noise filaments and 1.2mm thick heavy duty glass. This tube is aprox. 80mm high (without pins) and can replace 5881 and 6L6WGB tubes.

The production relaunched the TAD 6L6WGC-STR BLACKPLATE™ in early 2025 using the original design and raw materials from old stock. We are glad to offer them at limited volume as long a the old stock raw maerials last.

The perfect choice for vintage tweed and blackface amps such as the 1960 Bassman, Twin, Showman or Super Reverb. The complex midrange and sweet heights are a class of its own. The TAD 6L6WGC-STR is our recommendation for classic tone with warm cleans and rich, sweet mids when pushed. Great for fat jazz or blues tones.
